Wefts

Understanding Wefts

There are two different types of wefts – machine or hand-tied. Machine wefts are made when bulk hair is fed through a triple-head sewing machine and a reinforced stitch is added close to the top of the individual strands. The hair is then folded over and stitched again to create the final weft. Machine wefts are by far the more versatile of the two as you can trim or cut the hair without compromising on the condition.

Hand-tied wefts, as the name suggests, are created by hand. Individual strands are tied into a few strands of fishing line, a very laborious process. Hand-tied wefts cannot be cut to a smaller size, however, whilst machine wefts are much stronger, they are also much thicker making it harder for the wefts to sit closer to the head. With slimmer wefts comes increased comfort and the hair can be attached more securely. This means less shedding and this greatly extends the weft’s life.

And Answers...

What is a weft?

A hair weft is a collection of hair strands which have been woven on to a fine strip of cloth to create a "weft".

What attachment technique is best?

You can use glue, braids, micro rings, micro beads or clips to attach the wefts to your natural hair. Our suggestions, however, is to use clips if you want a temporary solution or micro rings if you want something semi-permanent.

How long do wefts last?

The Slavic hair itself should last between 1-2 years, if it is properly maintained but you will need to have the wefts taken out and reinstalled every 6-8 weeks, depending on your rate of hair growth.

What does it feel like?

While everyone is different, it is likely to feels tight the first few days, but once the wefts “settle-in”, you are unlikely to notice them at all, unless of course, you touch your head.

Which is better? Hand-tied or machine.

Machine tied wefts will be cheaper and more versatile (as you can trim or cut the hair without tampering the condition of the wefts) while hand-tied wefts will be slimmer, last longer and likely blend better with your natural hair if it is more than on hue.
